Pharmaceutical Indus tries
on the Path to Self-sufficiency
Nowadays, we are happy to have made good progress in the field of produc-
ing pharmaceutical excipients, which have very large and heavy uses and to
produce hundreds of excipients, including minerals such as talc powder, cal-
cium carbonate powder, and poly (N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP), and we were
ranked as the second country in the world in this field and we have achieved
good growth. Today, the most modern companies are producing this sub- Faramarz Ekhteraei
stance in our country, which are able to produce this product with a pressure
of 120 atmospheres. In the field of effective pharmaceutical substances, today
we can produce more than 410 pharmaceutical molecules, which have made a
great contribution to the national self-sufficiency of the pharmaceutical in-
dustry.
In the pharmaceutical industry, we are able to produce 71.9% of the country’s
pharmaceuticals by spending less than 120 million dollars, and when we talk Head of Policy-Making Committee Pharmex 2022 Exhibition
about self-sufficiency, we mean value self-sufficiency, not quantity self-suf-
ficiency, so there is no error in our calculation, while for the rest of the drugs,
more than 2 billion dollars of foreign currency is used, which shows a huge cur-
rency savings in the field of manufacture of this syndicate. One of the success-
es of the members of this syndicate has been the production of almost 100% of
pharmaceutical packaging needs inside the country, and this issue was a dream
in the country, but today we are able to produce the most complex vials, am-
poule glass, all kinds of caps, syrup glass, capsule powder and everything that
is used as pharmaceutical packaging, and we have reached 100% self-suffi-
ciency. Recently, we have produced a large volume of the most complex chem-
ical molecules, which are standard materials called impurities and reference
standards that are tested to measure the impurity and purity of the drug, with
the cooperation of the country’s scientists, we hope to soon achieve self-suffi-
ciency in the country’s drug supply chain with God’s help and the efforts of the
country’s youth and scientists.
